London Central S.S has had a strong music program for years. Thanks to the work of great teachers such as Bruce Richardson, Linda Wharton, and Steve Wolsley, Central has consistently had a large percentage of the student body enrolled in music. This year, the Central Secondary School Senior Orchestra is the largest is has ever been with 63 string players (in grade 11 and 12 alone). For the past 7 years, they have been lead my Mr. Imraan Haq A unique feature of the program is that the first concert of every year is dubbed a “Pops” concert. Every year, Mr. Haq creates unique to Central string arrangements of contemporary pop tunes that are always a highlight of the Pops concert. Past performances have featured Mr. Haq’s arrangements of Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson, Don’t You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia, and Ho Hey by the Lumineers (to name a few). They are posted in various corners of the YouTubesphere! This year, to coincide with the CBC contest, Mr. Haq composed and arranged string orchestra parts to accompany the original piano and vocal parts. As a school, we have enjoyed the vocal talents of Bethany Stigge and the piano skills of Riley McCluskey at many of our annual Coffee House events as so it seemed like a great match to pair the two up!!!
