Showcased at the SPAR International 2015, Houston. Planes, spheres, cylinders, cones, and tori are extracted automatically. System: Google Project Tango Tablet Software: FindSurface ver. 0.0 of CurvSurf Techniques: 1. The surface type, i.e. planar, parabolic, hyperbolic, or elliptic, for a small patch of point cloud around the pick-point displayed next to the screen-center is determined through a local curvature analysis. 2. The planar patch will be fitted as a plane; the parabolic patch as a cone; the hyperbolic patch as a torus; and, the elliptic patch as a torus. 3. Or, plane, sphere, cylinder, cone, or torus can be specified by the operator. 4. Region growing and model fitting are alternately repeated as long as no break condition of acceptance or discard is invoked. 5. A cone with a small vertex angle is converted to a cylinder; a torus with a small mean radius to a sphere; and, a torus with a large mean radius to a cylinder. The software FindSurface will be implemented also to Microsoft HoloLens and Intel RealSense. Applications include augmented reality, reverse engineering, robotics, logistics, etc. LNCS 3151, least squares, RANSAC, Hough transform, orthogonal distance fitting, object recognition.
